Patricia Barr, Principal Blessed Marie Rose Durocher, the woman who founded the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, said, “Obtain for us today the audacity of Faith, the simplicity of Hope, and the power of Love, that we may actualize the work of Jesus: ‘I have come to cast FIRE upon the earth, and would that it were already kindled.’”
Twelve Sister of the Holy Names left Canada and traveled to the Pacific Northwest in 1859 to carry out these wonderful words of their Founder. St. Mary's Academy is the recipient of all their hard work.
We have much to celebrate and invite you to join us as we celebrate our 150-year history with an important liturgy and reception. Archbishop John G. Vlazny, our celebrant, will lead us in prayer on October 18 beginning at 10:30 AM at the University of Portland Chiles Center. Please RSVP on-line via our web so we can plan for your attendance. Without the audacity of faith, the simplicity of hope and the power of love which the Sisters of the Holy Names gave so freely, St. Mary’s Academy would not have existed or weathered the years. We are so grateful and look to the next 150 years of educating young women.
