Next time you see a St. Mary’s Academy student, give her a hug. The faculty, staff, and administration couldn’t be more proud of the students of SMA for their hard work and commitment to this year’s student fundraiser. After two and a half weeks of soliciting donations from family, neighbors, coaches and friends, the young women of SMA have brought in a sum nearing $70,000—the highest ever in SMA student fundraiser history (this number is unofficial as of Thursday, October 8th, as some donations from out of state donors are still on their way to Portland). We thank you all for your support of the 2009 Blues Bridge Walk, an event that benefits many aspects of life at St. Mary’s, most notably the tuition assistance program.
On Thursday, October 8, 600 SMA students walked, jogged and skipped their way along the Blues Bridge Walk route, accompanied by their Teacher Advisors, parent volunteers and ample amounts of October sunshine. Thank you to all of the students, faculty, parents and family members that helped make this event a success.
Bravo, St. Mary’s Academy, bravo! |

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered for the September Phonathon and thank you to all the parents who kindly took their calls and made a donation! In just four nights of calling, SMA parents contributed more than $30,000 toward this year’s annual campaign. The St. Mary’s Fund provides resources for tuition assistance, academic programming, athletics, the arts and so much more! Thank you for launching this year’s St. Mary’s Fund effort with such enthusiasm and generosity. Our next parent phonathon will be March 1, 2, and 3. Call Anne Lawrance to volunteer at 503.721.7720 |

How can I begin to thank all of the kind SMA parents who provided cookies for Back to School Night? It was such a nice way for us to offer hospitality to our families and staff. Your generosity is heart-warming! If you purchased a Student Directory, they are ready for pick-up in the main office. Thanks to Ann Dow, Lisa Shultz, and their volunteers for spearheading this awesome activity.
On September 25, parents and staff put on the best party in town called the Freshman Lock-In. The class of 2013 became better acquainted as they painted nails, worked on crafts, sang Karaoke, watched improv theatre and movies. Thank you for your time and hospitality for making this event perfect for our students. We hope you caught up on your sleep! Volunteers Needed: Does your daughter wait after school for a practice or rehearsal to start or for her ride? The library is a great place to work on homework while she waits! However, we need parent volunteers to help to continue this program. The library is open from 7:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Volunteers are needed to arrive no later than 3:50 pm and remain until 5:30pm. If this is something that you would be interested in doing, please contact Cindy Daniels, 503-228-8306.
On October 21 and 22, we will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences. We would like to once again offer cookies to our parents as they wait in teacher lines. Many of you have already volunteered to bring in cookies for this event, so this is your gentle reminder. Thank you once again!
Many other volunteers are needed on an on-going basis, but, sadly, I have not received many volunteer forms. Please call me and ask for a form if you have not sent yours in. Thank you! Pat Thurston, Volunteer Coordinator |
